Wharf upgrade program

$4.6 million investment to improve public wharves on Sydney Harbour

Sydney Ferries customers might have noticed that Milsons Point / Luna Park Wharf is currently undergoing major works as part of NSW Maritime's Sydney Harbour Wharf Upgrade Program.

Sydney Ferries is happy to support the program which presents major benefits to ferry customers.

The $4.6 million upgrade at Milsons Point / Luna Park is the first major wharf upgrade under this program and involves complete demolition and reconstruction of the wharf and its structures.

NSW Maritime began the work in late May and is scheduled to be completed by October 2010. While work is being undertaken, Sydney Ferries will operate from nearby Jeffereys Street Wharf.

What is the Sydney Harbour Wharf Upgrade Program?

The Wharf Upgrade Program involves Circular Quay and most suburban commuter wharves.

The main objectives of the Program include:

  • the upgrade of passenger facilities to meet increasing public needs and expectations;
  • the incorporation of current disabled access standards; and
  • the creation of a functional and distinctive design for Sydney Harbour wharves and the ferry commuter system.

What is next in the upgrade program?

Under the Sydney Commuter Wharf Upgrade Program, the following 12 wharves are due to be completed within the next 5 years:

Milsons Point, Neutral Bay (Hayes Street), Cremorne Point, Watsons Bay, Hunters Hill (Alexander St), Double Bay, McMahons Point, Huntleys Point, Balmain (Thames St), Mosman Bay, Kurraba Point, Rose Bay.
