FOCIS Customer Information System
Real Time Customer Information System
Sydney Ferries' $14 million dollar investment in the Ferry Operations and Customer Information System (FOCIS) is set to roll out in 2011-2012.
Project Update - September 2011
New screens are currently being installed at Circular Quay with Manly to follow. The new screens at Circular Quay and Manly will display timetable and service messages to customers.
The system will be rolled out across all wharves over the ensuing 12 months following the Circular Quay and Manly implementation.
Project Update - May 2011
Final design specifications for the Ferry Operations and Customer Information System (FOCIS) system were agreed in March 2011 allowing implementation planning to begin.
The first FOCIS displays will be rolled out at Circular Quay and Manly wharves by October 2011, prior to the 2011-12 summer season. The system will be rolled out to the remainder of the wharves over the ensuing 12 months following the Circular Quay and Manly implementation. Additional features such as integration with www.131500.com.au, rostering and GPS tracking will be progressively turned on during the roll-out period.
The project remains within its original budget.
FOCIS - Modern Ferry Travel in Sydney
Ferry service information will be powered by a Global Positioning System (GPS) and delivered to you via automated LCD displays and audio announcements on all 43 wharves. Real time information about the next three services will be visible on the screens and audio announcements will advise current information.
Importantly, there will be facilities on wharves for hearing and vision impaired customers providing service updates.
A Tailored SMS Service
For those who opt in, a tailored SMS service will also be available to provide an early warning if a ferry is unavoidably delayed.
Operational Benefits
GPS tracking and automated passenger counting on vessels will help Controlling Officers manage the fleet to best suit demand. FOCIS will also integrate with Sydney Ferries vessel timetabling and crew rostering software to streamline services.
Exchange Data with Transport Info 131 500 and Sydney Buses
Up to date ferry service information will be updated automatically at www.131500.com.au and used to plan integration improvements.
Transport Information Totems on Outer Wharves
Transport signage totem structures have already been placed on outer ferry wharves. These totems, designed to house the LCD screens and other FOCIS equipment, have been trialled over time to ensure they can withstand the varying maritime conditions before the equipment is installed.
In addition, internal totem temperature tests have been carried out to help specify the design requirements of the FOCIS electronic equipment.
