Training and Development
Sydney Ferries' Training and Development Department provides high professional standards of vocational education and training for all staff.
Sydney Ferries's Award Winning Training Program
Sydney Ferries were recently awarded the NSW Large Employer of the Year at the NSW Training Awards 2011.
Sydney Ferries also won the NSW Training Initiative Award in 2010 for the new Ferry Master training program.
Since becoming a Registered Training Organisation in 2006, Sydney Ferries has built a reputation as a first class training organisation.
Ferry Master Program
The new Ferry Masters program allows Masters to receive their Master Class 4 training in a targeted, structured and integrated five-month program of on and off the job training.
Before the development of the new program, Masters would need to complete eight weeks in the classroom, followed by 18 months of unstructured ‘sea time’.
With a recognised national shortage of fully trained Ferry Masters, the new intensive program produces well-trained and highly-skilled Masters, ensuring Sydney Ferries meet customer needs while providing leadership in training models and excellence for the Maritime Industry.
Following the win for excellence, Sydney Ferries will now represent NSW at the National Training Awards in November 2010.
