Record Numbers Travel on Sydney Ferries
Sydney Ferries’ Chief Executive David Callahan today thanked Sydneysiders and visitors for their record support during the Christmas-New Year period.
“Over the holiday break Sydney Ferries carried over half a million passengers, including a record 94,918 yesterday [Sunday 2 January],” said Mr Callahan.
“This is the highest number of passengers carried in one day since the spectacular Olympic Games in 2000,” said Mr Callahan.
“The previous non-Olympic record (93,879) was set on 20 February 2007 during the visit of the ocean liners Queen Elizabeth 2 and the Queen Mary 2.
Mr Callahan said: “In the holiday period, Sydney Ferries has scheduled extra services to accommodate the crowds which saw a staggering 45,000 people travel on the famous Manly ferry. Other popular destinations included Darling Harbour, Watsons Bay and the Zoo.
“The popular Family Funday Sunday ticket provides great value to families wanting to explore Sydney’s beautiful harbour,” said Mr Callahan. “Members of family groups that include at least one child can purchase an all day ticket for $2.50, keeping the costs for a day out very reasonable.”
“Sydney Ferries’ preparations for the summer season really paid off, ensuring all vessels were available for scheduled and additional back-up services.
“Summer is our busiest period, so we employ extra customer assistance officers who support passengers by advising on the most appropriate ticket product and ensuring smooth boarding at busy wharves such as Manly, Circular Quay, Watsons Bay and the new Darling Harbour Terminal at King Street.”
Sydney Ferries’ summer services continue through to the Australia Day holiday.
