Variety Triumphs in AAMI Ferrython (posted 1 February 2008)
Thousands of Sydney-siders flocked to the harbour to enjoy plenty of sun, fun and Australia Day festivities, particularly Sydney’s favourite annual event, the popular AAMI Ferrython race.
Sydney Ferries congratulates Variety for winning first place on the Charlotte first fleet ferry in the 32nd annual AAMI Ferrython race and winning the coveted Lord Mayor’s trophy.
Spectators watched eagerly from pleasure craft and popular vantage points such as Milsons Point, the Sydney Opera House, Millers Point and Bradley Heads as the brightly decorated boats completed the 40 minute race.
Four First Fleet vessels are donated for the 40 minute race by Sydney Ferries along with the Ferry Masters to captain them – all for a worthy cause.
The sponsored boats competed in the race, which started at Circular Quay continued out around Shark Island and finished under the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
AAMI on the Borrowdale ferry came in second with Bonds on the Scarborough boat and ANZ on the Friendship vessel coming in third and fourth respectively.
