Journey A-Cross The Harbour (posted 16 July 2008)

Sydney Ferries was proud to play a part in the successful ‘Journey of the Cross & Icon’, which travelled from Manly to Circular Quay on Monday, 14 July 2008.

With its precious cargo onboard, the Narrabeen ferry departed as scheduled at 10:45am, accompanied by World Youth Day volunteers and pilgrims who sang and clapped along the way.

Hundreds of pilgrims and spectators gathered to see the cross arrive on time at Circular Quay at 11:15am and then continue on its parade up Pitt Street.

This is the third time the Cross & Icon has travelled with Sydney Ferries in the lead up to World Youth Day 2008.

In July 2007, at the start of its journey around Australia, the procession travelled from Circular Quay to Manly on the Freshwater ferry, and from Rydalmere to Parramatta on the Shane Gould RiverCat.

The journey of the Cross & Icon is the major lead up event for WYD08 and its arrival at the opening mass yesterday, 15 July 2008, was the highlight of the evening.
