Sydney Festival and Parramatta Opening Night Travel Information (Posted: 06-Jan-2012)

One of the best ways to experience ‘our city in summer’ is to catch one of Sydney’s famous green and yellow ferries!


The Sydney Festival runs from January 7 to January 29, offering a rich program of events involving artists from Australia and abroad covering dance, theatre, music, visual arts and film. There are free events, event for families and in 2012, the additional festival site at Parramatta. You can see the full program and book tickets here.

Sydney Festival general travel tips:

Sydney Ferries will be operating to a normal timetable during the festival. Please plan your trip and allow extra travel time and have alternative travel plans in place should your scheduled ferry service reach capacity.

Consider purchasing a ticket before you travel - many newsagents and convenience stores sell Pensioner Excursion and Family Funday Sunday tickets, MyMulti Daily and Weekly tickets, and some PrePay outlets near wharves may have ferry tickets in stock.

Parramatta Site - Opening Party Saturday, 14 January, Prince Alfred Park, Church St and more from 4pm

  • Sydney Ferries will be operating to a normal Saturday timetable on the Parramatta River route.
  • The last service from Circular Quay to Parramatta on this date are the 4.00pm, 5.00pm and 6.05pm services
  • The last services from Parramatta to Circular Quay on this date are the 5.00pm, 6.00pm and 7.00pm services.
  • Parramatta customers are advised that some services during the day will be tide affected. This means buses will replace ferries between Parramatta and Rydalmere for services due to depart Circular Quay from 4.00pm and 6.05pm and Parramatta between 5.00pm and 7.00pm.
