Customer profiling study highlights ticket behaviour (Posted: 12-May-2011)

The recent Sydney Ferries Customer Profiling Study conducted by Woolcott Research highlights some consumer behaviour trends.


Approximately 15 per cent of all ferry passengers (and 20 percent of Sydney harbourside residents) pre-purchase their tickets from outlets such as newsagents and convenience stores.

The growing percentage of customers pre-purchasing tickets is in line with an international shift away from reliance on traditional station-side ticket retailers and the expansion of electronic ticketing networks.

Family Funday Sunday tickets have proven extremely popular with outer Sydney and regional NSW residents, with more than 58% of Family Funday Sunday ticketholders coming from outer Sydney or country and regional NSW.

Ferry customers show a clear preference that the most convenient to purchase a ticket is from the wharf with nearly 50% of weekday and 70% of weekend passengers stating they would prefer this option.
