Concession Information

What pensioner concession tickets can I purchase?

All Australian Pensioners Concession Card holders*, Australian Seniors Card holders and NSW or Victorian War Widow/er Pension Card holders can purchase Pensioner Excursion Tickets and MyMulti Weekly Passes at concession rates for ferry travel. The MyMulti Weekly Pass extends across Sydney Buses and/or CityRail services(excluding entry/exit into Green Square, Mascot, Domestic Airport and International Airport stations- an additional access fee applies at these stations.) These concession card entitlements do not apply to MyFerry TravelTen tickets.

*Eligible beneficiaries include:

  • Aged Pensioners
  • Persons in receipt of the Mature Age Allowance
  • Disability Support Pensioners
  • Persons receiving the Parenting Payment (single)
  • Persons receiving the Carer Payment
  • Persons over 60 on long term payments including Newstart Allowance, Sickness Allowance, Widow Allowance, Partner Allowance, Parenting Payment or Special Benefit.

How does my child apply for a school ferry pass?

School passes are issued by State Transit Authority (STA).

To apply:

  1. Obtain an application form from your child's school and submit to STA, along with a letter stating why a ferry pass is needed.
  2. STA will then check the form and forward it to NSW Transport & Infrastructure for consideration.
  3. If your application is approved STA will issue you with a ferry pass.

Are students eligible to travel on concession tickets?

If you're a student aged 16-18 years, currently attend a NSW/ACT school and hold a Senior Secondary Student Concession Card (form 202), then you are entitled to half fare travel for all ticket types, plus child off peak tickets on CityRail, Sydney Buses and Sydney Ferries. The card must have a current CityRail transport foil to be valid. A form 202 can be obtained from your school's administration office.

Are children aged below 16 years eligible to travel on concession tickets?

Children under the age of four travel free. Concession fares apply to children aged 15 years or under. Persons under 16 years of age may be asked to show a proof of age card issued by RailCorp passes and concessions. Please contact RailCorp Passes and Concessions section on 1300 302 130 for more information or to obtain an application form for the proof of age card.

Can apprentices purchase concession tickets?

If you're a 1st, 2nd or 3rd year apprentice and hold an Apprentice Identification Card, then you are entitled to concession fares for single cash fare tickets, MyFerry TravelTen tickets and Weekly MyMulti Passes for travel to and from work only. MyFerry Single Concession tickets are not available on private buses and entry/exit into Green Square, Mascot, Domestic Airport and International Airport stations- an additional access fee applies at these stations.

Are trainees allowed to travel on concession tickets?

Holders of an Australian Traineeship System Trainee ID card are entitled to concession fares for single case fare tickets, MyFerry TravelTen tickets and Weekly MyMulti Passes for travel to and from work only. MyFerry Single Concession tickets are not available on private buses and entry/exit into Green Square, Mascot, Domestic Airport and International Airport stations- an additional access fee applies at these stations.

Are Tertiary Students allowed to travel on concession tickets?

Full time NSW/ACT students attending University, TAFE or Private College who are 16 years and over and school students 19 years and over are eligible for concession travel using a Form 204 (available from your University or School's student administration centre). Students must be enrolled for a minimum of 9 weeks; attending day classes; but not engaged in business or employment; not a full-fee paying overseas student; not an external study student; and not in receipt of remuneration excluding Austudy, allowances, etc.

  • Concession Station Access Fee or Gate Pass at AirportLink stations

Note: A tertiary student is NOT entitled to purchase any fare designated as a child fare.

I have a NSW Half Fare Entitlement Card, how much do I pay?

NSW Half Fare Entitlement Card holders are entitled to concession fares for single and return tickets on CityRail and private buses and for single tickets only on Sydney buses and Sydney Ferries. This does not apply to MyFerry TravelTen tickets. Concessions are not available on private buses and entry/exit into Green Square, Mascot, Domestic Airport and International Airport stations- an additional access fee applies at these stations.

I am visually impaired, can I travel for free on Sydney Ferries?

Holders of a Vision Impaired Persons Pass are entitled to free travel on all CityRail, Sydney Buses and Sydney Ferries services. An attendant or carer may also travel for free if the pass allows.

Can I use my Companion Card on Sydney Ferries services?

The Companion Card entitles NSW and interstate residents (from participating states) with significant and lifelong disabilities to bring and attendant with them on public transport free of charge. If you are a holder of a Companion Card, one attendant can travel with you for free on Sydney Ferries services. Eligibility for the card is based on the physical needs of the person with a disability and is not means-tested. Call the Companion Card information line on 1800 893 044 for an application form.

Are International Students entitled to concession travel

International student identification card holders are not eligible for concession fares. If you study in New South Wales, application forms may be obtained from your place of study for a NSW Student Identification Card.

What is the process for fines?

State Transit Revenue Protection Officers are employed to ensure customers have valid tickets while travelling on ferries and at wharves. They have the power to issue penalty notices for ticketing, safety, behavioural, property and compliance offences and have the power to ask people to leave ferries and wharves. If you feel your fine was imposed in error you can appeal it by following the instructions provided on the penalty notice. Alternatively, you can arrange payment or ask questions by telephoning 1300 138 118.
