Proposed Timetable Amendments 2010

Safer, Better Service

Please be advised that the 'Have Your Say' community consultation for the proposed Sydney Ferries timetable adjustments closed on Wednesday, 1 September 2010.

The proposed timetable adjustment will provide the following benefits:

SAFER SERVICE

  • Incorporate new NSW Maritime speed restrictions into the Darling Harbour timetable
  • A safer Sydney Cove through improved management of berthing
  • Incorporate Office of Transport Safety recommendation to adjust timetable

BETTER SERVICE

  • Direct services to greatest areas of demand across the network
  • Better alignment of peak services with peak demand
  • Improve on-time running
  • Simplify timetables and standardise communications

A comprehensive network review is planned for 2011. The network review will consider changes to the ferry service network, including the possibility of providing services to new locations.

Patronage Data

Customer demand data, based on passenger load counts commissioned by Sydney Ferries, is provided here to inform passengers providing feedback on the proposed timetable changes.

Proposed Changes

Manly
  • No changes are proposed to Manly services.
Darling Harbour
  • Darling Harbour services would now stop at King Street Wharf 3 instead of Aquarium Wharf. (Aquarium Wharf would remain fully operational for use when passenger numbers exceed capacity on King Street Wharf 3).
  • Increased frequencies in the AM and PM peak period.
  • Extended hours of operation on Saturday nights.
  • Increased service frequencies on Saturdays and Sundays to meet increased passenger demand.

Parramatta River
  • Retention of 7.00am and 8.00am RiverExpress services, with extra stops at Cabarita and Abbotsford. The 9.00am service has been modified to now depart at 9.30am.
  • Changes to journey time to comply with new speed restrictions in Darling Harbour.
  • Rydalmere, Sydney Olympic Park, Meadowbank, Kissing Point, Cabarita and Abbotsford wharves gain extra services to Darling Harbour (King Street).
  • The all stops service to Rydalmere in the off-peak period is now coordinated with the RiverExpress service.
  • Extended evening services on weekdays and Saturdays.

 Balmain / Woolwich
  • More services to Balmain (Thames Street), including services all day Sunday.
  • The last service on weekdays and Saturdays from Circular Quay for Birchgrove, Greenwich and Woolwich would depart Circular Quay at 10.30pm.
  • Balmain East (Darling Street) would now be fully serviced by the Darling Harbour route, with 30 minute frequencies all day.
  • Discontinuation of services to Birkenhead Point due to low demand and a reduction in Balmain West services.

 Taronga Zoo
  • Increase in service frequencies on weekends.
  • Weekday services start 30 minutes earlier (first service departs Circular Quay at 6.45am) and end slightly later (last service departs Circular Quay at 6.55pm).

 Watsons Bay
  • No changes are proposed to weekday services.
  • Service frequencies increase on weekends in line with growing demand for ferry travel to Watsons Bay.

 Mosman
  • Timing of commuter peak services are changed to create more consistent 20-25 minute frequencies.
  • The first AM service departing Mosman at 5.55am no longer operates.
  • Off peak frequencies on weekdays and Saturdays change from 30 minutes to 60 minutes to reflect demand.
  • The span of hours would increase on Sundays.

 Neutral Bay
  • Off peak frequencies on weekdays and Saturdays change from 30 minutes to 60 minutes to reflect demand.
  • The span of hours would increase on Sundays.
