Wharf Closures and Upgrades

Wharf Closures and Maintenance

Maritime Services own and maintain the wharves in the Sydney Ferries network. In order to maintain the safety, reliability and efficiency of the ferry network and wharves, it is necessary for Maritime Services to conduct planned and emergency repairs or upgrades as necessary.

To ensure the safety of customers, wharves may need to be closed for a period of time while maintenance works are underway. The length of the wharf closure depends on the work being carried out.

In some cases Sydney Ferries may be able to run the services to and from a nearby suitable wharf; however this is not always possible. In this instance customers may have to seek alternative transport arrangements during the wharf closure period.

Sydney Ferries endeavours to inform customers of wharf closures at least two weeks prior to the closure, although emergency repairs may occur on shorter notice.

Sydney Commuter Wharves Upgrade Program

The NSW Government is undertaking the Sydney Commuter Wharf Upgrade Program, the first stage of which involves upgrades to 12 wharves over the next 4 years. The first upgrade was Milsons Point Wharf, completed in December 2010. Read more about current and planned upgrades at Maritime Services.
