Real Time Customer Information
System
Sydney Ferries’ $14 million dollar investment in the Ferry Operations and Customer Information System (FOCIS) is set to roll out in 2010/11.
Modern Ferry Travel in Sydney
Ferry service information will be powered by a Global Positioning System (GPS) and delivered to you via automated LCD displays and audio announcements on all 43 wharves and 28 vessels. Real time information about the next three services will be visible on the screens and audio announcements will advise current, next stop and interchange information.
Importantly, there will be facilities on wharves and vessels for hearing and vision impaired customers providing service updates.
A Tailored SMS Service
For those who opt in, a tailored SMS service will also be available to provide an early warning if a ferry is unavoidably delayed.
Operational Benefits
GPS tracking and automated passenger counting on vessels will help Controlling Officers manage the fleet to best suit demand. FOCIS will also integrate with Sydney Ferries vessel timetabling and crew rostering software to streamline services.
Interchange Data with Transport Info 131 500 and Sydney Buses
Up to date ferry service information will be updated automatically at www.131500.com.au and used to plan integration improvements.
Transport Information Totems on Outer Wharves
Transport signage totem structures have already been placed on outer ferry wharves. These totems, designed to house the LCD screens and other FOCIS equipment, are being trialled over time to ensure they can withstand the varying maritime conditions before the equipment is installed.
In addition, internal totem temperature tests are being carried out to help specify the design requirements of the FOCIS electronic equipment.
